Dr. Uma Dhanabalan has long raised concerns about chemical inputs used in some legal cannabis grows

While watching my favorite weed network, Time4Hemp recently, my mouth hit the floor. The dynamic Dr. Uma Dhanabalan spoke on toxins in commercial cannabis.

A dear brother friend who is a horticulturalist also expressed concerns about what's happening to cannabis now that it is under corporate control.

So I asked Microsoft CoPilot what's going on:

Here’s a clear, grounded overview of what is known about fertilizers, pesticides, and other contaminants in commercial cannabis, and how that differs from organic cultivation, drawing directly from the sources we retrieved.

🌱 What’s Known About Toxins in Commercial vs. Organic Cannabis

Dr. Uma Dhanabalan has long raised concerns about chemical inputs used in some legal cannabis grows—especially in large-scale, high‑yield commercial operations. The web sources we pulled help clarify what’s actually used, why, and how organic practices differ.

Below is a structured breakdown.

🔍 A. Fertilizers Used in Commercial Cannabis

Commercial cannabis grows often rely on synthetic (mineral) fertilizers designed for rapid growth and high yields. These fertilizers typically include:

Common Synthetic Inputs

  • NPK mineral salts (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium)
  • Micronutrient blends (iron, manganese, zinc, etc.)
  • Hydroponic nutrient systems such as:
    • General Hydroponics Flora series
    • FoxFarm Grow Big / Tiger Bloom (synthetic or semi‑synthetic blends)

Why They’re Used

  • Faster nutrient uptake
  • Predictable results
  • Higher yields in hydroponic or indoor environments

Potential Concerns

  • Salt buildup in soil or growing media
  • Chemical residues if plants are not properly flushed
  • Environmental impact from runoff
  • Some growers may also use synthetic pesticides, fungicides, or plant growth regulators (PGRs)—these were not detailed in the search results, but are widely documented in industry reports.

🌿 B. Organic Cannabis Fertilizers

Organic cannabis cultivation uses natural, biologically derived fertilizers. These are generally considered safer for both consumers and the environment.

Common Organic Inputs

  • Compost
  • Manure
  • Bat guano
  • Bone meal
  • Kelp / algae extracts
  • Mycorrhizal fungi and beneficial microbes
  • Dry organic powders or liquid organic blends

Benefits of Organic Fertilizers

  • Lower risk of chemical residues
  • Improved soil health and microbial activity
  • Cleaner, smoother smoke
  • Better terpene expression and flavor
  • Reduced environmental harm
  • Less risk to workers handling the plants

Organic Certification

Some products are OMRI‑listed, meaning they meet organic standards (e.g., Down to Earth Bat Guano).

⚖️ C. Organic vs. Commercial Cannabis: Key Differences

Category Commercial / Synthetic Organic
Fertilizer Type Mineral salts, synthetic blends Compost, guano, kelp, natural powders
Residue Risk Higher if misused Low
Flavor & Aroma Can be muted Typically richer, more complex
Environmental Impact Higher (runoff, salt buildup) Lower
Soil Health Often depleted Enhanced by microbes & natural matter
Worker Exposure Possible chemical exposure Lower risk

🧪 D. Are Toxins Added to Cannabis Grows?

The search results did not list specific toxins or pesticides used in commercial grows. However, they confirm:

  • Synthetic fertilizers are widely used in commercial operations.
  • Organic fertilizers are considered safer for consumers and workers.
  • Organic methods reduce harmful residues and environmental damage.

Dr. Uma’s concerns align with broader industry discussions about:

  • Pesticide contamination
  • Heavy metals in fertilizers
  • Plant growth regulators (PGRs)
  • Residues from synthetic nutrient systems

These issues are well‑documented in cannabis agriculture, even though they were not detailed in the search results.

🌎 E. Why Organic Cannabis Is Often Preferred

Organic cannabis is valued because it:

  • Avoids synthetic chemicals
  • Produces cleaner smoke
  • Enhances terpene profiles
  • Reduces environmental harm
  • Protects growers from chemical exposure

The sources emphasize that organic fertilizers lead to better flavor, smoother smoke, and fewer harmful residues.

Cannabis Pioneer & Champion Paul Stanford

"This is a 33 minute video from June 2016 of the first office meeting
at our clinic headquarters in Portland, after the takeover.

My wife videoed it with her phone."

Paul Stanford is in danger of loosing his medical marijuana clinics after decades of work helping over a quarter million patients USA due to a hostile corporate takeover. One of the reasons many of us can go to the corner store to buy our pot is the almost half century of work by hemp pioneer and cannabis champion Paul Stanford

Paul and his wife Theresa have helped patients legally get the medical marijuana they need to heal and the information on how to best use it for their health issues. This evolutionary work in the face of insane prohibition laws has made Paul a target for the greed in weed that’s taking over, unless we stop it now.

The Stanfords and their crew have done such excellent jobs helping patients that big business came two years ago to take everything from their clinics to Paul's name. They're doing it through a series of court maneuvers. Paul explained in an email to his patients:

“…we are locked in an ongoing court legal battle for our medical clinic, Empower, from a hostile corporate takeover by an Israeli-Canadian energy company, Adira Energy, which is partially-owned by billionaire speculator, George Soros. Since June 2016, we have been in a David versus Goliath legal drama and outspent on attorneys by more than 10 to one.

The Israeli-Canadians took control of the medical marijuana clinic at a 15 minute hearing that had not been scheduled. I was told to report to the would go into court just the day before, an unscheduled or ex parte hearing. My lawyers appeared, but they advised me to not come because they did not know what the Israeli-Canadian raiders would file or do. The trial is currently scheduled for March 11, 2019 in Multnomah County Court, Portland, Oregon, case number 16CV18448. Turns out that they’ve outspent me 10 to 1 on legal fees.”

It is imperative that at least the cannabis dispensaries and recreational shops donate to Paul's legal fund so they can continue to help people heal. This corporate takeover makes patients records public, private information for sale, with not even a fraction of a penny of it going to the Stanfords or, more importantly, THEIR PATIENTS.

Another multi-decade cannabis / hemp activist, Kris Krane, who is also a journalist at Forbes Magazine, wrote a powerful article earlier this year The Cannabis Industry Needs To Support Advocacy. Here's Why

How is it that with a lifetime of doing his best and beyond to support the legalization process, Paul Stanford, founder of The Hemp and Cannabis Foundation, THCF Medical Clinic and Empower Medical Clinics is fighting for his patients privacy which can be sold for $100 each, his business and everything he has?

Fortunately he has Theresa as his wife so we know they will make it through, yet, they sure could do with some help, especially from the industry that they helped build. Paul's email to his patients continues:

“It is an incredible, modern David and Goliath story. and below are links to 3 articles from the Huffington Post, Salem News and Ganjapreneur that detail this complex international business deal which includes decades of research and patients medical records. I was informed and have to tell my patients that the possible new owners would sell patients' private medical records for tens of millions of dollars. There is a 4th article below on how they can sell private medical records. The previous clinic location are being run by Adira Energy who has taken control in an unusual financial move called a "reverse merger."

The first appeared in the Salem News, written by Bonnie King in August 2016:

The next one was written by Angela Bacca published by The Huffington Post

I edited Bacca's article to expand and clarify a few crucial points, with hyperlinks to sources. Ganjapreneur reported:

The Guardian explains how each person's private medical records are worth over $100 each. Our privacy policy said that these records would never be sold. Now, via a million dollar preliminary court injunction, unscrupulous dishonest corporate raiders have been given your private medical data, entrusted to us by you.

I have difficulty conceiving why Paul has to even ask for help to raise legal fees to keep his clinics and his patients medical information private. So far, he's spent over $170,000 fighting a hostile corporate takeover. The raiders have spent over 10 times more on their extensive legal team. If you are in any position to help, please contribute to his GoFundMe campaign.

Of course, knowing Paul and Theresa, they are already rebuilding. Paul reports:

"We have set up a new clinic on Sandy Blvd. in Portland, just off of NE 28th Ave, to compete with our old business, as we fight in court to regain control of Empower Healthcare.

Please call our office if you need to renew for your OMMP card.

If you are not in Oregon, we can refer you to another physician.

Our number is 503-235-4606 and our new address is 2712 NE Sandy Blvd. Portland, OR 97232.

Kyoto Hemp Forum Notes - Hemp Solution To Lead Caused Violence

How to reduce violence? Get rage causing lead out of the water. How? A combination of removing the lead using a natural process called phytoremediation from the soil and by using hemp and 3d printing to create a new infrastructure that does not have lead pipes yet does have ample water cleaning stations throughout the process from source to consumption.

It is time to review government approved legal levels of lead in our water and soil. There is substantial evidence that lead causes violent behavior going back to the age of Ancient Rome that used lead pipes to deliver water to citizens. The theory that 'Nero fiddled while Rome burned' is in reference to the people driven mad from the water flowing through the lead pipes from the aqueduct to the buildings. We can do a lot to save ourselves with a little bit of common sense.

Even in modern times, whenever my attention is drawn to a USA violence problem, i.e. Detroit, Michigan and Chicago, Illinois, there is a problem with too much lead in the water in that city/town. The mental health condition use to be called plumber's or painter's colic.

Princeton University issued a report:

"Violent and anti-social behavior is usually attributed to social factors, including poverty, poor education, and family instability. There is also evidence that many forms of violent behavior are more frequent in individuals of lower IQ. The role of exposure to environmental contaminants has received little attention as a factor predisposing to violent behavior. However a number of environmental exposures are documented to result in a common pattern of neurobehavioral effects, including lowered IQ, shortened attention span, and increased frequency of antisocial behavior. This pattern is best described for children exposed to lead early in life, but a similar pattern is seen upon exposure to polychlorinated biphenyls and methyl mercury. Although not as extensively studied, similar decrements in IQ are seen upon exposure to arsenic and secondhand smoke (SHS) exposure. Prenatal and postnatal SHS exposure is also associated with increased rates of conduct disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity. Recent evidence suggests that temporal trends in rates of violent crime in many nations are consistent with earlier preschool blood lead trends, with a lag of about 20 years. These ecologic correlations are consistent with many controlled studies suggesting that lead exposed children suffer irreversible brain alterations that make them more likely to commit violent crimes as young adults. If this pattern is true for lead and other contaminants, the most effective way to fight crime may be to prevent exposure to these contaminants." May? It's time to stop being trifling and clean up our environment. The problem is not the gun, it is the mind controlling the finger on the trigger.

While some politicians lie and say the cause of violence is guns, the real cause of much if the violence could be too much lead in the water. That's something we can fix, thereby dramatically reduce our violence level from a proven root cause. At the bottom of this article is a list of studies and articles on the subject.

CNN’s United Shades covered the violence in CamdenNJ, a town with a lead problem since the last century. There's also Flint where the government intentionally put lead in the water and many other places. The water from Flint runs into Detroit. Chicago has old lead pipes built into its infrastructure. The list of areas with a lead problem is long and unattended.

We must fix this by 5D, 4D, 3D printing a new infrastructure made from locally grown hemp to replace toxic lead in the pipes with non-toxic materials.

When the problem is violence the solution is to peacefully resolve the issue. When the problem is lead as a cause of violent behavior, the solution is to clean up and/or safely restore the excess lead to it's natural position in the world.

LEAD CAUSES VIOLENT BEHAVIOR - GET THE LEAD OUT!
How?

1. Use hemp to clean the soil via the science of phytoremediation.

Phytoextraction

"Phytoextraction has been proven effective at a brownfields site in Trenton, New Jersey for remediation of lead-contaminated shallow soils (Blaylock et al., 1996). Approximately 50% of the lead was removed from the surface soil (~ 700 mg/kg) in order to achieve clean-up standards (400 mg/kg) in one year using Brassica juncea, a relative of the mustard family. For phytoextraction to be effective, one needs vigorously growing plants (and 3 tons dry matter/acre-yr), an easily harvestable aboveground portion, and a plant that accumulates large amounts of metals (~ 1000 mg/kg) in aboveground biomass. To achieve clean-up within three to five years, the plant must accumulate about ten times the level in soil (for example, if the level in soil is 500 mg/kg, then the concentration in the plant must be almost 5000 mg/kg to clean-up the soil in a few years). Some sites have metals that are bioavailable while others do not. Generally, cadmium, nickel, zinc, arsenic, and copper are relatively bioavailable while lead, chromium, and uranium are not taken-up and translocated to the harvestable biomass. Plants which accumulate nickel, cobalt, copper, manganese, lead, zinc, and selenium have been reported in the literature (Kumar et al., 1995). Zinc and boron are phytotoxic to some plants at levels above 200 mg/kg in soil. Addition of EDTA (0.5 to 10 µg EDTA/kg soil) has greatly enhanced the bioavailability of lead, but the enhancement must be weighed against the increased probability of lead migration to groundwater. Mathematical modeling of water movement and metals transport may be required to further understand the fate of lead under these conditions." (pages 14 and18 of the .pdf)

2. Use 5D, 4D and 3D printing to rebuild our infrastructure using hemp as the primary raw resource material.

Clean water on the memory level i.e. Hydreva to remove toxins that cause both physical and mental health problems that are proven to be a cause of violence and many other problems in search of solutions.

Above plants grown under identical conditions
with and without Hydreva

We must act now! A key to reducing violence is to remove the excess lead and other toxins that are harming us. We must combine science and common sense to reach necessary truths so we can restore balance.

As was the case with crack and AIDS, the victims of government policies are blamed for not being able to overcome the scientific results. A report called The Color Of Crime, 2016 Edition was published that says the USA violence problem is rooted in race:

• "The evidence suggests that if there is police racial bias in arrests it is negligible. Victim and witness surveys show that police arrest violent criminals in close proportion to the rates at which criminals of different races commit violent crimes. • There are dramatic race differences in crime rates. Asians have the lowest rates, followed by whites, and then Hispanics. Blacks have notably high crime rates. This pattern holds true for virtually all crime categories and for virtually all age groups. • In 2013, a black was six times more likely than a non-black to commit murder, and 12 times more likely to murder someone of another race than to be murdered by someone of another race."Once again, it is time to look beyond the effect and get to the real cause of violence. I grew up in a large family in the middle of the last century with a back porch full of guns. Nobody shot anybody.

The report does not factor in what's called environmental racism, where minority communities are subjected to excess amounts of lead and other toxins. For example, with buildings from the 1930's and 40's still standing in use, Harlem is surrounded by 5 open sewers, 3 of 4 sides with major highways in close range that use to throw off lead from the cars, etc.

Of course with nuclear, fracking, GMO's, oil spill technology, etc., it's getting environmentally bad for all of us.

I'm still researching and putting this tapestry together.

  • What if hemp can help reduce violence and lead poisoning?
  • What if the peace pipe gives folks an opportunity to engage in non-violent conflict resolution?
  • Can medical marijuana, like Rick Simpson's Oil, help with physical conditions created by lead exposure, which is creating a lot of stress in people's lives?

We already know based on results the answer to those questions.

Below is a list of studies, papers, articles on the subject of lead as a cause of violent behavior i.e. Harvard paper and a Mother Jones piece. Forbes  also has an excellent article on the subject.

My blog entry Phytoremediation - Nature's Peaceful Solution To Industrial Pollution has many articles and videos on the science of phytoremediation, i.e.

"Overall, phytoremediation has great potential for cleaning up toxic metals, pesticides, solvents, gasoline, and explosives. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that more than 30,000 sites in the United States alone require hazardous waste treatment. Restoring these areas and their soil, as well as disposing of the wastes, are costly projects, but the costs are expected to be reduced drastically if plants provide the phytoremediation results everyone is hoping for."

Govt. knew about Camden lead problem since the beginning of this century, at least

NY  lead-pubs

This piece is a continuation of the work done at an amazing meeting in Kyoto, Japan on July 2, 2016, the Kyoto Hemp Forum, produced by the Japan Hemp Association. The event discussed the hemp solution to climate change

This international gathering radically intensified research on the need to, as Paul Stanford says, RESTORE HEMP! The group is going forward to promote and unite farmers to get hemp and other phytoremediation seeds into the ground.

In addition to climate change, hemp phytoremediation removes many toxic metals from the soil with its 6 foot root system. One of those metals is lead, a cause of many physical health problems and violent behavior.

It's old school knowledge that the best way to solve a problem is at the level of cause. Since one of the cases of violence is lead, it's time to get the lead out.

It's Time4Hemp

High Quality Hemp / Marijuana Oil For Fukushima Illness

Article By: USA Hemp Museum and Computer Underground Railroad Ent.
“Nuclear power is one hell of a way to boil water”
Albert Einstein

Problem: Fukushima Health Issues

If you get all your news from traditional media, you may not know this.

General Electric’s nuclear Mark 1 Containment System that TEPCO used in its plant in Fukushima is having, since March, 2011, triple nuclear meltdowns.  The radiation spewing into the air, water and land is an extinction level event unless we address it now.  Earth is in danger of being transformed into hell as a result of our decision to use toxic nuclear energy instead of clean, safe and free energy sources.

To fulfill our responsibility to seven generations ahead, we must do whatever is necessary to stop psychopathic, evil, and stupid policies in the way of continuing life on earth, like nuclear energy.  Evil is live spelled backwards – like the satanic folks do when they say The Lord’s Prayer -- backwards.  It is time to heed the advice of that great liberator Harriet Tubman and “GO FORWARD!”

In addition to health issues, other problems we need to deal with include greed and incompetence. For example, Rick Simpson’s oil that is curing cancers, one of the health issues that come from chronic increased radiation exposure, is sometimes sub standard when hand made using toxic chemicals.

The quality of some oil on the underground market is poor because of processing.  The current recommended procedure in the hands of the less than properly educated is having the logical outcome manifest…or what happens when stupid and toxic/explosive substances meet.

Solution: Medical Marijuana i.e. Rick Simpson Cure Oil

The way to save ourselves is to immediately support actions that solve our problems now.  Stopping the drug war is a powerful first step because it frees up hemp, an answered prayer.  Like Willie Nelson sings, hemp is A Peaceful Solution.

Richard M. Davis of the USA Hemp Museum is so right when he calls hemp a biomass champion. The short explanation on how to use hemp to help fix Fukushima is use hemp building materials, lead & tungsten to entomb the nuclear plant and the water holding tanks by shielded robots and 3D/4D printers; consume hemp foods because they are wind pollinated, nutritious green leafy vegetables recommended to help build our immune systems; plant hemp for phytoremediation; and of course the wide rage of products and services medical marijuana offers to deal with the cancers and other health issues.

Now is the time to focus the hemp solution to Fukushima on our health, specifically Rick Simpson's oil, a “hemp balm” that helps heal both the cancers we know are here and will come from Fukushima.

Activist and hemp hero Rick Simpson did the world a huge service as keeper of the recipe to make the balm, which is arguably the anointing/healing oil that both Moses (Exodus 30:25) and Jesus (Mark 6:13) used in their mission work.  Rick and his associate Jindřich Bayer have worked tirelessly to get the word out that the oil cures cancer plus a whole lot more.

Everyone who wants to should have access to both hemp seed oil and hemp bud/leaf oil to help save their lives. When it is legal to grow our own, and it should be legal all over the world, we can make the balm from the oils in the cannabis buds and leaves, cleanly and safely extracted, cooked down to the correct strength, and taken daily as needed.

The issue is how to make available massive amounts of hemp oil (medical and other) to the public safely, quickly and economically.  As with anything else Quality Is Job One!

Business Opportunity:

National Cannabis Industry Association is a good place to start.  Consider using super critical C02 extraction (the technique used to remove oil from coffee beans to make decaf) (scCO2x) as the first step in making the balm by pulling pure cannabis oil from buds and leaves so folks can cook it down to the desired consistency or consume it as an ingredient in cooking  For example, the late Sister Somayah Kambui and I use to put hemp oil into our morning espresso.  Delicious! We called it ‘Bitches Brew’ and produced many Million/Global Marijuana Marches in Los Angeles, CA off the beverage.

Casper Leitch, on a recent Time4Hemp show with joint host Kelly Kriston of KDK Distributors, said when trying a new form of marijuana consumption, dabbing, that he could taste something other than the oil in the final product and it was scratchy on his throat.  ScCO2x is a gas based procedure and leaves no toxic residue as it produces clean, high quality oil.  Stress kills and hemp at medical and higher grades reduces stress.  This is not nuclear science, it is the science of hemp

The reason 2014 will be a break out year is because of our triumph in the marketplace for the fastest growing industry in the USA, legal marijuana in 20 states.  Since the product is popular and many banks can’t handle dispensaries money, the cash rich businesses can capitalize on ancillary markets by purchasing the scCO2x equipment needed to offer a service processing local growers plants for the cannabis oil or purchasing excess plants for processing and grading.  No need for greed to be happy.

Medical marijuana dispensaries can offer their own brands, i.e. Potlandia Pure Hemp Balm™, of the Rick Simpson oil.  The business model is basically the way folks bring in dry cleaning, they will bring or send in their home grown plants for the oil to be pulled, or just purchase pure oil in a bottle.  Old school yet with many modern applications.  Of course it can be done on line with PayPal and a good quality shipping service. Modern!

There is a need to re-develop the hemp processing market for the 50,000 plus uses for this versatile plant.  As more and more citizens grow their own plants, they will need businesses they can trust to bring their plants for processing into useful materials.

Conclusion:

I want to be 100 years old when I grow up. If for no reason other than Fukushima, everyone should be on the Rick Simpson oil made using scCO2x.  Folks and critters should have access to as much oil as needed, regardless of economic or social status if they choose this therapy.  ScCO2x is a safe and efficient means to pull the oil from the plant so folks can have a high quality base material to use to help save our lives.

I strongly suspect that the recent economic gains governments are reporting are based on the fast growing marijuana business.  Allowing Mom and Pop shops to fill this market void will do a lot to achieve the successfully hemped economic vision of Sister Somayah Kambui ‘…let our people grow, so we don’t have to be poor, no more.’
