As an old hippie from the 1960s, I find it difficult to comprehend why Pot Pioneer and Ibogaine Scientist/Activist Dana Beal is facing legal troubles for possessing cannabis.

It's perplexing that the industry seems to be neglecting the very person who helped pave the way for legalization. Though their lack of support in his time of need is truly disappointing, I remain confident that the multi billion dollar legal cannabis / hemp industry will come to the aid of our hero, Dana Beal, who is in danger of going back to jail for the crime of possessing a plant.

Having marched with Dana since 1973, both in person and online, I'm stunned by the indifference shown by the multi-billion dollar cannabis industry in response to his 2024 arrest. 

"Dana Beal’s journey, marked by relentless advocacy for cannabis and psychedelics legalization, takes a new turn following his recent release from Idaho’s Gooding County Jail. Arrested in January for alleged marijuana trafficking, the 77-year-old activist now faces a potential 15-year prison sentence, even as the U.S. seems to be moving toward legalization."

The legal cannabis businesses have the resources, so why does Dana even need to ask for help? In Arizona alone, legal cannabis made $1.4 billion in 2023$1.4 billion in 2023. If just 8 dispensaries contributed $5K each, it would cover his legal fees for a charge that lacks logical sense. 

It's disheartening that the industry has not stepped up to support him in promoting the benefits of hemp and ibogaine for modern issues.

With all the profits from legal weed, it’s frustrating that law enforcement would arrest a man who has dedicated his life, freedom, and health to ending the harmful war on drugs.

My initial shock has turned into determination. The truth is, Dana Beal deserves our support.

Looking beyond my emotions, I asked ChatGPT "Who Is Dana Beal?"

I also asked about the number of dispensaries in the USA in 2024.

Now that I'm calmer, I see that if just 8 out of those 12,156 legal marijuana dispensaries donated $5K each, it would cover Dana’s legal fees.

How to approach the Mormon Church about using Ibogaine to solve the drug problem?

As an old school hippie, I see Ibogaine and medical marijuana as the same thing, effective, illegal plant medicines we can use to heal.  It's time to declare the age of stupid over. A good place to start is by using nature's solution to crack / cocaine and other addictive drugs, Ibogaine. Though Ibogaine helps with other illnesses, like Parkinson's Disease, for the purposes of this piece, let's focus on drug addiction.

A mastermind alliance is being built to approach the Mormon Church with the idea of using Ibogaine to solve the problem of drug addiction both within the Church and the greater community. 

I spoke with Dana Beal about the best way to accomplish this mission and he suggested running the idea by a few folks he really respects, which is being done. By whatever means you got to this page, please share your ideas in the comments section below.

The catalyst for this idea is two fold.

1. Thanks to Dana and the work done by his Yippie Museum, I’ve known about and advocated for Ibogaine since the 1990’s. National Geographic had a program on earlier this year about the Church’s extensive drug problem on their Drugs Inc. series - Salt Lake Sinners.  The foundation task is to help the Church see the advantages of using Ibogaine (a Latter Day Saints / LDS tool, a gift from one of The Lord’s plants) to help folks heal and institute a program in the Church. A blog entry is up on the concept, the second half containing references to various bible scriptures that point to 'this is the right thing to do.'

2. The New Testament is about Jesus solving problems at the level of cause. During my unrelated healing and for the past five years from time to time I pray with some Mormon folks, and have been to the church many times.  I cannot be a Mormon over issues of cannabis, computers, clothes and coffee, though I’ve studied, underlined and noted my copies of the complete Mormon Bible, which includes the KJV of the bible too.  There is a pro cannabis Mormon group on FaceBook that posts regularly so we may be down to three.

Initial questions as the proposal is being written are:

A. What do you think of the idea and how can it be made better? 

B. What do you think is the best way to approach the Church with this idea? 

C. Is there a way to coordinate LDS members who have healed with or witness to Ibogaine in action with the Church leadership, preferably an on line conference that’s recorded? 

One more thing.  As part of his brilliant lifetime of service, Dana is working to raise the funds to save the historic Yippie Museum, the source of this idea. 

With 80% ofAmericans close to or below the poverty level (and that was 2013), a little better (reported numbers) in 2014, plus a programming glitch that was on his Go Fund Me page, fundraising is slow.  If you can donate anything, even $5-$50 please do so now. It's up to us to save ourselves.

Bill Maher once suggested that the biggest problem with the marijuana movement is some of its "leadership". As an old hippie from the 60’s I have some serious questions to ask those in the marijuana movement with money who are not investing in, advertising with or donating to those who have already invested everything they have into ending the war on drugs! 

Have we become the greed we've been fighting?

ARE WE IN “THE RISE OF THE MARIJUANA HYPOCRISY”, ONLY IN THIS CASE THOSE WHO ARE BENEFITING FROM LEGALIZATION ARE IGNORING THOSE WHO MADE IT POSSIBLE?

WHEN DID WE BECOME SO GREEDY WHERE ONE HAS MARIJUANA MILLIONS WHILE ANOTHER FIGHTS FOR FOOD, CLOTHES AND SHELTER, LET ALONE THEIR DAILY WEED?

WHY ISN'T THERE ENOUGH WEED AND MONEY TO GO AROUND FOR AS LONG AS NECESSARY TO ACHIEVE HEMP FOR VICTORY?

Hemp hero Chris Conrad, in his ground breaking book HEMP: Lifeline To The Future, closes his work published in 1994 with a chapter entitled “Reaping The Rewards Of Reform.”  More like salvation, the physical kind. Removing hemp from our daily lives is the source of much modern chaos, simply solved by ending hemp prohibition.  

So many hemp heroes are broke, dead, homeless or in prison as a result of the role they play in stopping the drug war. This problem is coast to coast.  On the east coast Dana Beal is basically homeless in NYC where he lost his Bleeker Street building weeks before he got out of jail.  A friend of his had a fundraiser during an expo in New Jersey,April 4-6, 2014 in Piscataway, NJ for Dana.  

On the west coast hemp hero Jeff Clark, multi-decade of both the military and marijuana movement, has been homeless since his house burnt down in 2000. Though both men continue to give their all to the movement and based on results acceptance has passed the critical 50% number, both men are still homeless.  

Lynette Shaw invented the modern dispensary system, had a successful dispensary and now can't have a club. R.W. Akile helped produce the first and all subsequent Global Marijuana Marches since 1999 and he does not have a dispensary either. 

So much money in the marijuana movement, so much greed in weed. 

Richard M. Davis died on January 10, 2014 with the entire museum locked up in storage in LA for over a year, no word yet on its future, if any. His partner said they tried everything to save him so for the life of me I still don't understand how did the founder and curator die of cancer since we know cannabis cures cancer. I don't know if he had clean access to the Rick Simpson cannabis cancer cure oil.  

The smart thing to do by the way since Richard M. Davis, Jack Herer, Sister Somayah Kambui, Peter McWilliams, Gatewood Galbraith, Michelle Rainey, etc. are gone, is help Chris Conrad the new museum curator of that marvelous over 3,000 piece collection of hemp everything.  Take that collection viral.  Before Richard died he had every item photographed.  

Luke Scarmazzo, NJ Weedman, Rev. Roger Christie, Rev. Eddy Lepp, Marc Emery, Dr. Marion "Mollie" Fry and her husband of 25 years, civil attorney Dale Schafer and about a million other people are in jail or on trial as in the cases of Share Christie , Bob Doler, Lee Reisch and countless others who are being tried or fighting in court for having the courage to interact with the hemp plant. That's wrong on so many levels.

We need our hemp heroes, like Paul Stanford who uses his money to the bone (though he has a wonderful, young family to support), with initiatives, a cable show named Cannabis Common Sense, joint hosting a radio show, running a series of THCF medical marijuana clinics that get folks their certification for qualifying illnesses, patient activist, hemp research consultant, etc.  I recommend Paul to be the UN's Hemp Czar.  

How is there so much money in the marijuana movement, most banks won't take it, and so many struggling activist who have been fighting for this since the last century? What am I missing?

Folks are dead, in jail and/or dying from fighting the war on drugs, sacrificing everything in order to speak truth to power.  Here's another example.  

The father of marijuana broadcasting, like before most folks even heard of the internet as it could relate to their lives, Casper Leitch, coming up on a quarter century, the longest running program dedicated to hemp, is fighting to save his recently expanded broadcasting network.  Originally the King Of Pot was going to be a big part of the team with a show and help raise the funds to do the network.  Shortly before they began, Michael Malta died and Casper make the tough decision to go forward anyway.

For the fools before God in judgment, who don't know what it means to sacrifice beyond everything you have to do your work, know that USA Veteran (use to guard nuclear missals in Germany) Casper Leitch is an old school hemp hero who started out as JackHerer's assistant when Jack published the hemp bible THE EMPEROR WEARS NOCLOTHES.  Casper left that job and started Time4Hemp, whose guest on his first show was ChrisConrad. He's been telling folks about hemp ever since.

Time4Hemp's journey under Casper's creation, production and leadership includes cable, radio and web broadcasting.  

Before setting up the Time4Hemp Global Broadcasting Network, the program was on American Freedom Radio reaching about 2.5 million people. AFR went silent without warning in the middle of 2013 due to the marijuana arrest of its owner.  Now the Time4Hemp network has more than 20 hosts and offers much needed international bridges.  

Since September, 2013 Casper and his friends, many of whom dedicate their program time to teach and entertain, built this powerful information fountain that now runs 24/7 with live and/or archived programming on everything hemp.  The network, with hosts speaking in many different languages, is a voice for the marijuana movement, as the program has been since 1990...sometimes by Casper’s pure grit. Yet, it is danger of being silenced within months after limited legal recreational marijuana became law without the financial support of the marijuana community.

The archive is full of experts in various fields concerning hemp, i.e. Ed Rosenthal, Todd McCormick, Mary Lynn Mathre, AlByrne, Kelly Kriston, Peter Christ, Paul Stanford, Paul Benhaim, Michael Krawitz, etc.For decades Time4Hemp recorded, many of the shows stored in the extensive on line archives, conversations that span the distance of the modern marijuana movement, free of charge.  Just about everybody if not everyone mentioned in this post has been or will be on Time4Hemp at least once.  Download, enjoy and learn. 

As you probably understand, I am having great difficulty getting my brain around how much greed must there be in the movement that with as many hemp folks in trouble as there are, why not enough action is being taken to help the folks most capable of pushing the anti-prohibition agenda forward. 

I can’t pretend not to know that there was $5 million generated in the first week of legal, recreational cannabis sales in Colorado...and that was just the reported cash.  Yet, Casper and other hemp heroes have to ask, if not beg the community for help to keep their life’s work going that is making a positive difference in the world. That time could be spent education folks about the hemp solution.  I am praying for quick, profound, dynamic, positive change in all situations, the highest good for all concerned.

If we fail to support the folks who have worked tirelessly for years for between zero and negative based cash flow, then maybe we should look at our paychecks to see if they are coming from folks who want to silence the legalization movement.

I am writing in support of the patriotic hero Dana Beal, who has been fighting for the rights of sick and dis-advantaged people his whole life.  Dana is a heroes’ hero who should be free to do his missionary work.  He is a man of the peace pipe, the same peace pipe that Calvin Coolidge smoked with the Native Americans.  It is a mistake to have Dana Beal in jail. I am certain that hemp farmers George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams and hemp merchant Benjamin Franklin are ashamed that the Declaration of Independence was not made into law.  It's sad how the children of the American Dream are dealing with prison, homelessness, poverty and uncertainty when something as simple as adapting a document signed by Dana's ancestors, our ancestors, that would protect us from government created cruelty for victim-less crimes.    

Dana’s been part of my life, an inspiration, for over 25 years, going back to my participating in his Million Marijuana Marches in New York City, longer if I count the years of just going to the rallies, having fun and learning as much as I could about how to save the world.

When Dana and Sister Somayah Kambui produced the first march in Los Angeles, he made a way for me to help out so I could continue the conversation about why we should stop the drug war and use hemp’s 50,000 products and the five million jobs that can come from it to help make the world better.  Medicine, paper, building materials, foods, energy, fabrics, there are so many non-toxic uses for this marvelous plant. 

Dana’s introduced me to the powerful peace activist David Crockett Williams who’s helped me co-publish both the free energy book DEPALMA, FREE ENERGY AND THE N-MACHINE by MIT professor and inventor Bruce DePalma and PRELUDE TO INTIMACY by Earth Day co-founder and wrongfully imprisoned Ira Einhorn about his years on the run.

Davis of the USA Hemp Museum with his Hemp For Victory book series A GLOBAL WARMING SOLUTION [Dana’s on page 41], THE WONDER HERB [Dana’s on pages 75 &148] and THE TRILLION DOLLAR CROP [the only reason he’s not in that one is the economic papers were long and filled up the 250 page printer imposed limitations.  He will be in part two on the subject of hemp as an economic empowerment tool.]  Some days I feel I can trace most of our problems back to prohibition in some form. 

I’ve seen him speak truth to power many times, even in cases where who he was talking to had a gun and the right to shoot him.  Dana is one of the most courageous men I’ve ever known.  I’m short too and he taught me a lot about how to stand tall in the face of opposition.  There is so much unnecessary opposition to a plant that can do so much to help so many people.    

Dana’s work in Ibogaine, nature’s solution to Iran Contra crack, cocaine is powerful and dynamic in scope.  A lot of problems that our young people are dealing with can be solved by this simple plant that serves as a right of passage from youth to adulthood.  In addition to the internal mental health benefits these plants offer, a simple program that gives people a chance to work with the soil, growing plants like Iboga and hemp, would do a lot with the mental health epidemic we witness on Maury and the Jerry Springer shows 5 days a week.

Dana has so many more souls to positively influence.  I’ve put what Dana and those he introduced me to, to good use.  I just finished a proposal on how to use hemp food to solve the UN declared world food crisis and am helping produce a series about the economics of hemp (Jay Greathouse & Gatewood Galraith) on the 20 year radio/video show Casper Leitch’s, Time4Hemp, broadcast M-F on American Freedom Radio Network. during the months of September and October with a series on hemp food during November and December, 2011.  I’ve been able to co-produce a series of web videos on the subject of how to use hemp to solve our problems for the USA Hemp Museum and the Willie Nelson Peace Research Institute.  Were it not for the decades of encouragement that Dana has shared with me, I’d still be thinking inside the safety box, instead of beyond to what is true. 

Like Gandhi making salt so that his people can live free, Dana’s whole purpose of being is to do the right thing, co-creating the highest good for all concerned.  Dana with hemp is exactly the same thing as what Gandhi did with salt, only hemp is a little bit more complex. 

In the 90’s when I lived in Harlem, Dana’s wisdom and council helped me use hemp and computers to keep the Crips and Bloods drama out of Harlem at the time.  Many folks commented that if it was there nobody knew it was going on.  I’ve been out of NYC since ’98 and I hear it’s gotten worse. Because of the drug war, there are over 29,000 children under 5 who recently died for the want of hemp food (used to heal other famines) in Somalia.  We’ve made the hemp peace pipe illegal and wonder why we have problems with violence and war. 

As a result of the drug war, I’m experiencing America like I never imagined it could be.  Here in Los Angeles there are about 10,000 homeless children who could be housed, their parents provided with jobs by locally grown and processed hemp building materials.  The zero job growth experienced last month in the nation could be replaced with a job bonanza of new hemp products on the market from farming to consumer satisfaction.  

Dana and marijuana/Ibogaine reminds me of the Barbara Streisand character in Yentl and education. 

      Like it was illegal for Yentl to learn, it is illegal for Dana to use hemp, unless the court decides to throw out the non-violent drug cases so it can focus on real crime. 

      Like it was illegal for Yentl to read books intended for men, it’s illegal for Dana to use hemp, intended for other countries like China, not home. (Hemp is legal in China, the world’s leading economy).

     Given the breath of ailments that hemp helps heal, how could he settle for just a piece of healing sky from the pharmaceutical industry when there is a huge sky of herbal healing alternatives that work better in many cases with zero deaths associated with use.

Dana is guilty of doing what any caring soul would do.  DON’T JUST SIT THERE – DO SOMETHING TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM.

     What would you do if you knew effective medicine was illegal?

      How many people must one watch die in misery when a simple, natural, zero deaths hemp joint can bring so much relief and peace? 

      What would you do if it was illegal to research new applications?  Must we still be pulling the blinds because the neighbors might see?

      What if you knew what would help a sick person but had to risk jail to get it to them?  Would you risk your freedom?

     What if the patient was you, or a family member, or a priest? 

That’s where Dana is in his life, jailed for doing the right thing, getting medicine to sick people.  He’s answered each call for the highest good to the best of his ability.  It’s an unfair position to put such a righteous soul in jail.  It’s like the Romans jailing Jesus or Birmingham, Alabama jailing Dr. Martin Luther King.  ‘Taint fittin. It just ‘taint fittin’ to jail such a righteous soul.  He’s done no man any harm and helped millions benefit by being the leading marijuana voice in New York, the biggest market.

Like Dr. King and the FBI, Dana will be vindicated by history and the Will of the People.  The future will see him as a persecuted soul who gave his life to free the future from the failed politics of the past.  Please use the full mercy of the court and free Dana. 

Dana is needed to help the world implement the will of the people, which is to end hemp prohibition and re-institute the truly successful program HEMP FOR VICTORY, that could finance itself.  For example, the president recently proposed a jobs proposal for over $400 billion, maximum net 2 million jobs or $200,000 per job.  $200 billion invested in a Hemp For Victory program would produce 5 million jobs (50,000 products times 10 companies per product times 10 employees per company) or $40,000 per job.  Given the level of product innovation hemp offers, the reality can exceed this projection based on the $1.7 billion medical marijuana field already exceeds the 10x10 calculation.

Dana was so missed at this year’s Global Marijuana March that his absence has served as a lightening rod to push us over the edge to where the majority of the people are in favor of stopping the drug war.  He picked up in the liberation movement where South Africa’s Steven Biko left off.

The Declaration of Independence was a document to assure people freedom from oppression.  It’s a shame it’s not law in truth because it if it were law, the drug war would be illegal by violating our right to the pursuit of happiness, which is only an illusion.  But it is law in spirit and the drug war is making fodder of the people by every indicator. 

I recommend you engage in a dialogue with Peter Christ, one of the co-founders of Law Enforcement Against Prohibition to learn about the need for the courts to restore sanity to justice.  We need to focus the criminal justice system on criminals that create harm, not healers and children and other innocent souls just interacting with nature. 

Here’s one more reason we need Dana Beal Free.  There are a lot of sick people from World Trade Center Illness.  The fallout was as toxic as drain cleaner.  Medical marijuana can help with the suffering and disengage the trigger for violent health episodes.  Stress kills and medical grades and higher reduce stress while hemp food provides vital nutrients. 

The City is lying when they say it’s just the first responders who are getting sick.  The first recorded case of World Trade Center Illness was 42 year old attorney Felicia Dunn Jones on February 10, 2002.  Asbestos does not wash out and the dust settled over everything.  The EPA lied on 9/13/11 when they said ‘the air is safe to breathe and the water safe to drink.’  New York, his homeland, needs Dana Beal to help people with the untold diseases from the toxic substance mixture they were exposed to 10 years ago.  In incubation period for chemically induced cancers is 10-15 years.  For more on the subject I wrote an article in the book HEMP FOR VICTORY: THE WONDER HERB by Richard M. How does hemp help with World Trade Center Illness?  Hemp has a history of helping with respiratory and digestive problems.  The blend of toxins makes the situation worse.  Dana is at Ground Zero of World Trade Center Illness.  He needs 50 tons of marijuana to begin to deal with the crisis that the heroes of 9/11 are dealing with, all the heroes which include anyone in the area at the time.  They were heroic enough to survive.  Dana needs to be leading the city in a hemp planting program to help clean up the toxins there. And of course the work of Rick Simpson should be applied here and elsewhere.

PLEASE - Don’t make the same mistake that was made with the great and dynamic author, publisher and activist Peter McWilliams.  Peter was a victim of murder by court order.  He was an AIDS patient who choked on his own vomit being denied by court the medical marijuana he was using to control his nausea.  If your soul is torn for a rationalization to stand up for the Will of the People which is the right thing, McWilliams explained in his book title ‘AIN’T NOBODY’S BUSINESS IF YOU DO: THE ABSURDITY OF CONSENTUAL CRIMES IN OUR FREE COUNTRY.

I am prayerfully confident that you will judge in favor of the people and FREE DANA BEAL.  Millions of lives are depending on your decision.
