As an old hippie from the 1960s, I find it difficult to comprehend why Pot Pioneer and Ibogaine Scientist/Activist Dana Beal is facing legal troubles for possessing cannabis.
It's perplexing that the industry seems to be neglecting the very person who helped pave the way for legalization. Though their lack of support in his time of need is truly disappointing, I remain confident that the multi billion dollar legal cannabis / hemp industry will come to the aid of our hero, Dana Beal, who is in danger of going back to jail for the crime of possessing a plant.
"Dana Beal’s journey, marked by relentless advocacy for cannabis and psychedelics legalization, takes a new turn following his recent release from Idaho’s Gooding County Jail. Arrested in January for alleged marijuana trafficking, the 77-year-old activist now faces a potential 15-year prison sentence, even as the U.S. seems to be moving toward legalization."
The legal cannabis businesses have the resources, so why does Dana even need to ask for help? In Arizona alone, legal cannabis made $1.4 billion in 2023$1.4 billion in 2023. If just 8 dispensaries contributed $5K each, it would cover his legal fees for a charge that lacks logical sense.
With all the profits from legal weed, it’s frustrating that law enforcement would arrest a man who has dedicated his life, freedom, and health to ending the harmful war on drugs.
My initial shock has turned into determination. The truth is, Dana Beal deserves our support.
Looking beyond my emotions, I asked ChatGPT "Who Is Dana Beal?"

In summary, Dana Beal has earned the support of the cannabis community. Why won’t more of the industry owners help Dana?
I also asked about the number of dispensaries in the USA in 2024.

Now that I'm calmer, I see that if just 8 out of those 12,156 legal marijuana dispensaries donated $5K each, it would cover Dana’s legal fees.

Paul Stanford is in danger of loosing his medical marijuana clinics after decades of work helping over a quarter million patients USA due to a hostile corporate takeover. One of the reasons many of us can go to the corner store to
buy our pot is the almost half century of work by hemp pioneer and cannabis champion Paul Stanford.
Paul and his wife Theresa have helped patients legally get the medical marijuana they need to heal and the information on how to best use it for their health issues. This evolutionary work in the face of insane prohibition laws has made Paul a target for the greed in weed that’s taking over, unless we stop it now.

The Stanfords and their crew have done such excellent jobs helping
patients that big business came two years ago to take everything from their clinics
to Paul's name. They're doing it through a series of court maneuvers. Paul explained
in an email to his patients:
“…we are locked in an ongoing court legal battle for our medical
clinic, Empower, from a hostile corporate takeover by an Israeli-Canadian
energy company, Adira Energy, which is partially-owned by billionaire speculator, George
Soros. Since June 2016, we have been in a David versus Goliath legal drama and outspent
on attorneys by more than 10 to one.
The Israeli-Canadians took control of the medical marijuana
clinic at a 15 minute hearing that had not been scheduled. I was told to report
to the would go into court just the day before, an unscheduled or ex parte hearing. My lawyers appeared, but they advised me to not come
because they did not know what the Israeli-Canadian raiders would file or do. The
trial is currently scheduled for March 11, 2019 in Multnomah
County Court, Portland, Oregon, case number 16CV18448. Turns out that they’ve outspent
me 10 to 1 on legal fees.”
It is imperative that at least the cannabis dispensaries and recreational shops donate to Paul's
legal fund so they can continue to help people heal.
This corporate takeover makes patients records public, private information for sale,
with not even a fraction of a penny of it going to the Stanfords or, more importantly,
THEIR PATIENTS.

The Guardian explains how each person's private medical
records are worth over $100 each. Our privacy policy said that these records would
never be sold. Now, via a million dollar preliminary court injunction, unscrupulous
dishonest corporate raiders have been given your private medical data, entrusted
to us by you.
I have difficulty conceiving why Paul has to even ask for help
to raise legal fees to keep his clinics and his patients medical information private.
So far, he's spent over $170,000 fighting a hostile
corporate takeover. The raiders have spent over 10 times more on their extensive

Of course, knowing Paul and Theresa, they are already rebuilding. Paul reports:

While working with Takashi Okanuma of the Japan Hemp Association on what has evolved into the Kyoto Hemp Forum, I was asked for a bio piece. Crushing 63 years of life into 4 minutes and 20 something seconds was an interesting yet necessary task.
I am J. Nayer Hardin, founder of and a conductor on the Computer Underground Railroad, a cyber division of the original. My mission since 1984 is to use computers and other technology to help people be free.
In that role I am a cyber activist who works to close the digital divide, end the drug war, use cannabis to help folks heal, promote the many ways 3D printing, especially in hemp, can solve problems like hunger, homelessness and climate change. I am also a clean energy advocate, researcher and a patent holding inventor US Patent No 5,188,321.

The Underground Railroad is a cyber division of the original. I was raised for that position from my grandmother's weekly missionary meetings. Mother Clara Hale commissioned me to use technology to help people be free, bridging the digital divide to save lives. Mother Hale and her daughter Clara came to one of my dinner parties. Mother Hale told me, who was enjoying life in mid town Manhattan in the 1980's, that something was going on with computers and Harlem was being left out. She said it was my responsibility to do something about it. She let me know further instructions would come in prayer. She was right.
So one day I screamed in meditation, 'I understand I am suppose to go forward, but I'm standing in the middle of an empty circle, how do I know which way is forward?'
A woman's voice spoke back to me, like a light tap on the back of the head, 'Forward is in the direction of the Lord, Love, the one who made and spins your atoms.'
I saw the path. 'O.K. How is this to be pulled off, without make up?'
'The old Underground Railroad model is available. Those who temporarily have more share with those who temporarily have less so everybody has in abundance.'
As a computer diva since the 1970's, with my personal Emancipation Proclamation Day as 7/7/77, when I started working on computers full time, what I have plenty of is computer love and passion, which I joyously share.
My background includes:
• 1972-1984 Corporate career at NBC, CBS, ABC and other New York media companies where she learned about and worked on word processors / computers
• 1984-1988 Evangelical, independent computer trainer and provider of computer services to small businesses (business plans, flyers, mailers, etc.)
• 1988-98 With Bernie Hirschenson and others great souls, Esteban Granados, Jacquie Hardin Bailey, Kathy Korpi, Linda Humes, Iro Joe Lewis, Melinda Maxwell-Gibb, David Gibb, Margaret Inge, Lisa Nelson, Selma Epstein, Ayo Adeyemi, Ellie Jones, Gail Julius, Bernard Block, C.C. Smoke 'em if you got 'em in California
In the name of freedom, this is a great time to be alive in California. Cannabis users are rejoicing in Los Angeles and elsewhere in the state. The courts actually ruled in favor of We The People last month and there is an air of joy in LA that I've not experienced before.
The court has joined the people saying the federal government does not own us in this the land of the free and the home of the brave, even though we support it with tax dollars, personal accomplishments and voter participation.
We are not their cattle. They do not "own us" as fulfillment to the debts of dead people, i.e. the Marijuana Tax Act of 1937 and counterproductive UN Drug Treaties from 1961. They do not have a right to control our consumption of a plant.
We The People have determined to save ourselves with the simple hemp solution in issues regarding Fukushima, medical marijuana, global warming, the economy and whatever else it takes to fulfill our responsibility to secure life at least 7 generations ahead. Restoring hemp to full participation in nature's process is a wise course of action.
The source of this celebration, which kicks into full gear with September's much awaited THC Cup, September 15th & 16th in Hollywood, is the recent court decision regarding storefront and mobile dispensaries.
The SF Gate reports:
"An appeals court in Southern California recently struck down Los Angeles County's 2-year-old ban on dispensaries, ruling that state law allows cooperatives and collectives to grow, store and distribute pot. However, in a separate case, an appeals court said federal law pre-empts municipalities from allowing dispensaries.
Pot clinic advocates say government bans disregard the state law passed by voters in 1996 that allows the use of medical marijuana with a doctor's recommendation.

From the recent court ruling on medical marijuana that at least reads like the folks on the corner are legal too since they are mobile dispensaries:

We conclude state law preempts County's ban.
DISPOSITION
The order granting a preliminary injunction is reversed, our stay of the injunction is dissolved when the remittitur issues from this court, and the matter is remanded for further proceedings consistent with this opinion. Defendants are entitled to their costs on appeal."

I am not alone in my observation that life is radically better and more hopeful here on the US West Coast, considering what is going on in our sister states of Oregon, and Alaska.
"As many California medical marijuana collectives breathe a deep sigh of relief, pot clubs in L.A. have been given the green light to operate – thanks to the Second District Court of Appeals decision in California on Tuesday. The court issued the groundbreaking ruling in the County of Los Angeles v. Alternative Medicinal Marijuana Collective or AMCC.
The second district Court of Appeals affirmed that medical marijuana collectives are allowed to operate under existing California state law. They further went on to reject any and all bans that the local municipalities may have imposed on these medical marijuana collectives."
